SKOR.id - Dalam memilih makanan, tanggal kedaluwarsa harus diperhatikan agar tetap dapat mengonsumsi makanan yang layak.

Makan kedaluwarsa tidak dapat dilihat dari tampilannya yang terkadang masih seperti layak dikonsumsi.

Pada tahun 2019, Asosiasi Produsen dan Distributor (AECOC) melakukan survey tentang konsumsi makanan kedaluwarsa.

Sebanyak 43 persen responden yang disurvei percaya bahwa makanan kedaluwarsa masih aman dikonsumsi.

Lalu dalam survey selanjutnya 73 persen responden menyatakan bahwa mereka masih mengonsumsinya setelah melewati tanggal kedaluwarsa.

Dilansir dari Mundodeportivo, mengonsumsi makanan kedaluwarsa bisa memberikan dampak buruk bagi kesehatan.

Pertama, pakteri dan mikroorganisme lain akan berkembang dan mengubah makanan, sehingga menyebabkan timbulnya penyakit.

Kedua, reaksi bio kimia yang terjadi pada makanan, selain bisa mengubah tampilan makanan, akan berdampak buruk pula bagi kesehatan.

Dalam permasalahan makanan, terkadang masih ada yang sulit membedakan mengenai makanan yang tanggal kedaluwarsa dan tanggal batas penyajian terbaik.

Tanggal kedaluwarsa biasanya diberikan kepada makanan yang secara mikrobiologis mudah untuk rusak.

Contohnya adalah makanan seprti daging, ikan, atau produk yang divakum dan melalui proses pasteurisasi.

Selanjutnya makanan yang memiliki tanda batas konsumsi "best before" tidak menimbulkan risiko langsung jika dikonsumsi setelah waktu yang ditentukan.

Ada dua alasan mengapa tak berdampak langsung bagi kesehattan, pertama karena perlakuan kepada makanan sejak awal pemrosesan, kedua karena makanan itu sendiri tidak memiliki kondisi yang mendukung perkembangan mikroorganisme.
