Francesco Bagnaia Sebut Grip Ekstra Justru Memperbesar Risiko Crash

SKOR.idFrancesco Bagnaia meyakini grip (daya cengkeram) ekstra yang ditawarkan ban belakang baru Michelin berkontribusi terhadap seringnya pembalap MotoGP mengalami crash musim ini. 

Rider Ducati Lenovo Team sekaligus juara dunia bertahan MotoGP tersebut adalah salah satu yang terjatuh dalam sprint Grand Prix Inggris di Sirkuit Silverstone, Sabtu (3/8/2024) kemarin. 

Bagnaia kehilangan balans di bagian depan Desmosedici GP24 miliknya ketika memasuki Tikungan 4 pada lap kelima. Saat itu, Pecco, sapaan akrabnya, menempati posisi keempat.

Kecelakaan tunggal telah mewarnai MotoGP 2024 hampir setiap race weekend. Tak hanya Pecco, rivalnya seperti Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) dan Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing) pun mengalaminya. 

Kendati pembalap Italia tersebut memuji ban belakang anyar Michelin, sebagai pemasok, yang punya grip lebih baik. Ini membuat kecepatan meningkat, tetapi di saat yang sama memperbesar risiko crash.

“Pertama-tama, ban belakang yang baru itu fantastis, namun menyebabkan kami lebih sering jatuh karena ban belakang banyak mendorong bagian depan (motor),” Pecco menjelaskan.

“Hari Sabtu (sprint), tiga pembalap terdepan finis dengan gap delapan detik dari posisi keempat. Jadi saat ini kecepatan yang dimiliki beberapa pembalap luar biasa.”

“Saya pikir kita belum pernah melihat hal seperti itu, sangat mengesankan, dan saya menyukainya. Tetapi, risiko kecelakaan selalu ada,” tambah sang rider 27 tahun.    

Pun demikian, Pecco Bagnaia mengakui crash saat sprint MotoGP Inggris 2024 adalah kesalahannya, yang terjadi karena ia melaju terlalu kencang ke tikungan kiri usai mencetak lap tercepat di putaran sebelumnya.

“Sejujurnya, saya melakukan kesalahan. Sepanjang akhir pekan, di tikungan keempat, saya sangat cepat. Di lap kelima, saya sedikit terlalu melewati batas, saya lebih dekat ke apex sebelumnya. Saat masuk, saya kehilangan balans di bagian depan,” Pecco mengakui.

“Jadi, itu kesalahan saya dan saya sudah minta maaf kepada tim karena mereka, seperti biasanya, selalu melakukan pekerjaan dengan sempurna,” imbuh Bagnaia. 

Pilihan ban menjadi krusial di Silverstone, yang panjang dan berliku. Ini tentunya bakal sangat membebani karet Michelin. Bagnaia memilih kompon medium yang lebih aman, seperti mayoritas pembalap.    

“Kami tidak memiliki ban depan yang tepat, karena suhu tidak memungkinkan kami untuk balapan dengan ban hard. Tapi ban medium itu aneh dan soft setelah dua lap tamat,” kata Pecco.  

“Saya pikir medium adalah pilihan yang tepat, tetapi saat ini saya keluar terlalu cepat dari tikungan ketiga, dan ketika saya baru memasuki tikungan keempat, saya 3 km/jam lebih kencang.”
