Minuman isotonik merupakan salah satu jenis minuman olahraga yang memiliki kandungan seperti karbohidrat, mineral, dan elektrolit.

Minuman berenergi cenderung mengandung zat-zat yang tidak dibutuhkan oleh tubuh, seperti kafein, taurin, guarana, keratin, dan zat adiktif.

 

Minuman isotonik disebut-sebut menjadi pengganti cairan tubuh karena bentuknya yang serupa.

Isotonik juga cepat diserap oleh tubuh sehingga penting untuk diminum ketika tubuh sedang dehidrasi atau kekurangan cairan.

Namun demikian, konsumsi isotonik juga tidak bisa terlalu berlebihan.

Sebab, bisa meningkatkan risiko penyakit di dalam tubuh.

Ada bebetspa risiko penyakit yang dihasilkan dari konsumsi isotonik yang berlebihan. Berikut daftarnya:

Obesitas

Menurut penelitian yang dirilis oleh Journal of Population Therapeutics dan Clinical Pharmacology, menunjukkan bahwa minuman berisotonik secara berlebihan dapat menyebabkan obesitas.

Sebab bagaimanapun, isotonik tetap mengandung gula.

Kecanduan

Minuman isotonik juga memungkinkan mengandung zat adiktif.

Hal itu didapat dari pewarna dan pemanis buatan yang terkandung di dalamnya.

Biasanya dua zat tersebut dimasukkan ke dalam minuman isotonik, untuk memberikan rasa yang lebih bisa dinikmati oleh orang.

Menurut jurnal Nutrients, pemanis buatan bisa memengaruhi kesehatan usus.

Hipertensi

Kelebihan minuman isotonik juga dapat menyebabkan hipertensi.

Hal ini bisa terjadi kepada orang-orang yang mengonsumsi minuman isotonik secara berlebihan tanpa melakukan olahraga.

Kandungan gula dan garam dalam isotonik dapat memengaruhi nilai tekanan darah.

Selain itu jika kalori tertelan secara berlebihan, berat badan juga meningkat beriringan dengan penyempitan pembuluh darah.
