Seperti halnya pisau cukur dan spons pembersih piring, sikat gigi juga menjadi salah satu barang wajib yang perlu diperhatikan.

Setidaknya, Skorer harus sudah mengganti sikat gigi baru setelah pemakaian kurang lebih 40 hari.

Setelah masa tersebut, sikat gigi pasti sudah tidak dalam bentuk yang baik. Bulu sikatnya akan rusak dan bentuknya tidak beraruran.

Lalu, apa bahanya jika terlalu lama tidak mengganti sikat gigi? Dilansir dari Tiptar, berikut adalah sederet bahaya yang bisa timbul jika tak lekas ganti sikat gigi.

Kesehatan gigi dan gusi jadi terganggu

Menyikat gigi mencegah penyakit gusi dengan menghilangkan plak yang terbentuk di sekitar garis gusi.

Jika endapan plak tidak dipecah secara teratur, mereka dapat menyerap mineral dari air liur dan membentuk zat keras yang disebut karang gigi.

Di sinilah sikat gigi Anda berperan. Sikat yang terlihat usang kurang efektif dalam menghilangkan plak, terutama di bawah garis gusi. 

Plak yang terus-menerus membuka pintu ke sejumlah komplikasi kesehatan mulut termasuk radang gusi dan kerusakan gigi.

Sarang bakteri

Tahukah Skorer jika sikat gigi yang sudah dipakai terlalu lama akan menjadi sarang bakteri? 

Apalagi jika sikat gigi tersebut tidak ditutup dan disimpan dengan baik. Makin tua sikat Anda maka makin banyak kuman yang dikandungnya.

Sikat gigi yang telah dipakai tiga bulan memiliki kontaminasi bakteri yang lebih berat (termasuk kotoran!) dibanding sikat yang telah digunakan selama satu bulan.

Fakta itu terungkap lewat sebuah penelitian kecil pada Agustus 2015, yang diterbitkan dalam Journal of Natural Sciences, Biology and Medicine.
