Ikan sarden biasa dikonsumsi dalam bentuk olahan daging segar, makanan beku, atau juga kalengan.

Di Indonesia, olahan ikan sarden paling populer dipasaran adalah dalam bentuk kalengan dan biasanya dengan rasa saus pedas atau tomat.

Menurut klaim dari setiap kemasan, ikan sarden kalengan mengandung banyak nutrisi baik bagi tubuh. Lantas apakah benar demikian?

Dilansir dari WebMD, ikan sarden setidaknya mengandung nutrisi seperti protein, lemak, vitamin B12, selenium, fosfor, vitamin D, kalsium, vitamin D3, dan iodine.

Kemudian, potensi manfaat yang terdapat dalam olahan ikan sarden kalengan, antara lain:

1. Meningkatkan Kesehatan Jantung

Asam lemak omega-3 daam ikan memiliki fungsi untuk menstabilkan ritme detak jantung dan menjaga dari penyumbatan arteri.

Ikan dengan kandungan omega-3 tertinggi adalah ikan berminyak banyak seperti salmon, mackerel, dan sarde.

American Heart Association merekomendasikan konsumi ikan berminyak tapi tidak digoreng, yakni dua porsi per minggu atau setara 3,5 ons. 

2. Memperkuat Tulang

Ketika mengonsumsi ikan sarden, alangkah lebih baiknya untuk sekaligus memakan tulang dan selaput kulitnya karena di sanalah sumber nutrisi sang ikan berada.

Ikan sarden sangat kaya vitamin D, kalsium, dan fosfor yang bagus untuk kesehatan tulang.

3. Meningkatkan Fungsi Saraf

Kandungan B12 dalam ikan sarden sangat membantu, terutama orang dewasa, dalam meningkatkan fungsi saraf sensorik.

Meskipun demikian, mengonsumsi ikan sarden kalengan bukan tanpa risiko. WebMD menjelaskan bahwa sarden kalengan berpeluang meningkatkan berbagai penyakit.

Kandungan sodium yang tinggi berpotensi dalam meningkatkan tekanan darah, asam urat, dan batu ginjal jika dikonsumsi terlalu banyak.

BBC Good Food juga menulis bahwa ikan sarden kalengan berpeluang memiliki kandungan kalori dan lemak yang lebih tinggi daripada kondisi segar.
