Roti sudah menjadi makanan pokok sejak zaman dulu. Bahkan hingga saat ini roti juga tetap menjadi favorit banyak orang dari berbagai kalangan.

Pada abad ke-19 mesin roti mulai digunakan. Lalu di abad ke-20, mesin roti digunakan secara total, mulai dari mengaduk, oven otomatis, mendinginkan, memotong, hingga membungkus.

Pada dasarnya roti dibuat dari bahan tepung terigu, air, mentega, serta ragi. Banyak sekali mitos soal roti ini, namun tidak semuanya benar.

Berikut adalah beberapa mitos yang paling sering terdengar menurut ahli gizi Spanyol.

1. Remah Roti Lebih Membuat Gemuk Dibanding Bagian Kulit

Ini adalah mitos. Remah roti justru lebih lembut karena lebih lembab sehingga lebih banyak air dan oleh karena itu, asupan kalorinya pun lebih rendah.

Sementara itu bagian kulit, yang merupakan bagian paling keras, justru mengandung lebih sedikit air dan memiliki kalori lebih tinggi.

2. Roti Gandum Utuh Memiliki Kalori Lebih Sedikit dari Roti Biasa

Jika membandingkan roti putih dan roti gandum utuh, sebenarnya kalorinya mirip. Roti gandum utuh biasanya membutuhkan lebih banyak mengunyah dan menyebabkan rasa kenyang lebih lama karena kaya serat, jadi cenderung mengonsumsinya lebih sedikit dibanding roti putih biasa.

Namun perlu diperhatikan bahwa sekarang ini banyak roti gandum ditambahkan lemak dan gula untuk meningkatkan rasanya, sehingga akan mengubah nilai gizi.

3. Roti Bikin Gemuk

Roti adalah makanan pokok di sejumlah negara, seperti di benua Eropa. Sejauh ini tidak ada kaitan antara makan roti dan gemuk.

Roti mengandung 277 kkal per 100 gram. Satu hal yang membuat kita gemuk adalah asupan kalori yang berlebihan dan tidak digunakan oleh tubuh kita, disimpan dalam betuk lemak.
