Langkah pertama untuk mencegah timbulnya karang gigi adalah menghindari plak. Plak merupakan bakteri yang terletak di antara gigi.

Bakteri tersebut berasal dari air liur yang menumpuk di mulut dan makanan yang Anda konsumsi.

Plak lama kelamaan akan menjadi karang gigi. Hal itu ditandai setelah bentuknya mengeras di sekitar gigi dan warnanya menguning.

Langkah utama untuk menghindari karang pada gigi adalah dengan rutin menyikat gigi. Anda dianjurkan dua kali dalam sehari menyikat gigi, setelah sarapan dan sebelum tidur.

Anda juga dapat menggunakan benang gigi untuk membersihkan kotoran di sela-sela gigi.

Cara Menyikat Gigi yang Benar

Anda harus menyikat gigi dengan benar agar kotoran dapat seutuhnya hilang. Anda sebaiknya menyikat gigi dengan memperhatikan keseluruhan gigi, baik di rahang atas dan bawah.

Anda juga harus menyikat lidah. Dikhawatirkan masih ada sisa makanan atau kotoran pada lidah.

Penggunaan obat kumur sebaiknya juga sesuai dengan anjuran dokter. Jika tidak sesuai dapat menimbulkan penumpukan karang gigi.
