Tanpa Sesi di Dalam Air, Perenang Adam Peaty Ubah Latihan dan Diet

SKOR.id – Pandemi virus corona (SARS-CoV-2) membuat perenang putra Inggris Adam Peaty harus putar otak untuk menjaga kebugarannya. Maklum, kini berlatih di dalam kolam mustahil dilakukan.

Berbeda dengan pesepak bola, pesepeda, atau atlet dayung sekalipun yang bisa tetap fit lewat sesi workout di gym pribadi mereka. Ini tidak berlaku bagi seorang perenang.     

Bagi atlet renang, latihan di dalam air sangat vital. Kondisi ini memaksa peraih medali emas nomor 100 meter gaya dada putra Olimpiade Rio de Janeiro 2016 itu mengubah latihan serta dietnya.

“Renang adalah olahraga di mana Anda tidak benar-benar bisa berlatih kecuali berada di dalam air,” kata Adam Peaty. “Sayangnya, itu tidak bisa dilakukan mungkin hingga tiga pekan ke depan.”

“Bagi mereka yang awam, sulit untuk memahami hubungan antara perenang dengan air. Bagi kami (perenang) satu hari sesi di dalam air artinya dua hari latihan di darat,” ia menjelaskan.

Selama tidak bisa melakukannya di habitat seharusnya, Adam Peaty harus menyesuaikan porsi latihan yang bakal dijalani di gym yang tersedia di rumahnya.

“Selain itu, saya juga akan banyak joging, bersepeda. Untuk saat ini hal terpenting adalah memastikan  kebugaran tetap terjaga,” ujar perenang kelahiran Uttoxeter, Inggris itu.

Rutinitas Peaty sekarang jauh bila dibandingkan latihan 10.000 meter yang biasa  dilakukannya di dalam kolam renang. Ini artinya ia harus mengubah kebiasaan makannya.  

Atlet 25 tahun tersebut mengaku dirinya harus menjalani puasa secara berkala. Hal itu dilakukan demi menjaga kadar lemak di tubuhnya. Menurut Peaty, ini bagian tersulit yang harus dilakoninya.

“Saat melakukan isolasi, Anda ingin memakan segalanya. Itu tak bisa saya lakukan,” kata Peaty. “Dalam kondisi normal, saya bisa membakar 4.500 kalori. Kini maksimal sekitar 2.500 kalori.”

Kendati berada dalam situasi sulit, Adam Peaty telah membidik target tinggi pada Olimpiade Tokyo tahun depan. Ia ingin mendulang lebih banyak medali emas.

“Sekarang saya harus menunggu lebih lama. Namun ada masalah besar yang melanda dunia. Jika kita bisa mengalahkan virus ini, Olimpiade akan menjadi selebrasi yang hebat,” ujarnya.
