Silverstone Modifikasi Run-Off T1 Usai Insiden Zhou Guanyu

SKOR.id – Otoritas Sirkuit Silverstone selaku venue Formula 1 Grand Prix Inggris telah melakukan sejumlah perubahan di area run-off (limpasan) Tikungan 1 (T1) untuk merespons kecelakaan mengerikan yang dialami Zhou Guanyu pada tahun 2022 lalu. 

Tidak berapa lama setelah start F1 GP Inggris 2022, Pierre Gasly yang kala itu masih membela Scuderia AlphaTauri (kini BWT Alpine F1) terjebak di antara Alfa Romeo C42 geberan Guanyu dan Mercedes F1 W13 milik George Russell yang mulai melambat karena akan masuk tikungan. 

Mobil Gasly kemudian menyenggol Russell sehingga Mercedes geberannya berputar memotong jalur Guanyu. Mobil Guanyu lantas “terbang” untuk kemudian jatuh dan jungkir balik beberapa kali. 

Mobil pembalap asal Cina itu baru berhenti setelah melompati pagar-tangkap. Sempat terjebak di dalam mobil, Zhou Guanyu akhirnya bisa dikeluarkan dan beruntung tidak mengalami cedera serius.

Merespons kecelakaan hebat tersebut, jebakan kerikil (gravel trap) – yang berfungsi memperlambat mobil jika keluar trek – di sisi kanan tikungan kanan yang cepat di area Abbey, telah dibuang. Penggantinya adalah limpasan aspal.

Managing Director Sirkuit Silverstone Stuart Pringle menjelaskan bahwa ini mobil Zhou Guanyu tidak bisa berhenti karena terus “menggali kerikil” yang menyebabkan mobil terus berputar usai terpelanting.

Sebagai akibat dari insiden tersebut, FIA juga mengubah aturan untuk pengujian roll-over hoop (pelindung di bagian atas-belakang kokpit) dengan pemeriksaan yang lebih ketat akan diwajibkan mulai tahun 2024.

Pasalnya, saat kecelakaan Zhou Guanyu, roll-over hoop Alfa Romeo C42 terlihat rusak parah. Mulai saat ini, roll-over hoop didesain lebih kuat dan sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak bisa “menggali” gravel trap seperti insiden di F1 GP Inggris 2022. 

Musim 2023 ini, F1 GP Inggris akan menjadi putaran ke-11 dan dijadwalkan berlangsung pada 7-9 Juli mendatang di Sirkuit Silverstone. 

Tahun ini akan menjadi GP Inggris ke-74. Sejak kali pertama digelar pada 1950 sampai 1986, venue GP Inggris bergantian digelar di Silverstone, Aintree (5 kali), dan Brands Hatch (12). 

Sejak 1987, Silverstone ditetapkan sebagai sirkuit permanen untuk F1 GP Inggris. Tahun ini, trek dengan panjang lintasan 5,891 km itu bakal menjadi tuan rumah untuk kali ke-57.

Pembalap tuan rumah yang juga juara dunia tujuh kali (2008, 2014, 2015, 2017-2020) Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team) masih menjadi pemenang terbanyak F1 GP Inggris, delapan.
